Workshops
Toolboks workshops, led by Anna-Lise Marie Hearn, the creator of Toolboks, offer a hands-on introduction to the resource. They are practice-led, spacious, and structured — a way to experience how Toolboks works as a knowledge system of possibilities, frames, prompts, and reflection tools, designed to support diverse creative practices and processes.
Workshops can be booked by schools, companies, education centres, festivals, residency spaces and dance houses as:
an introduction to Toolboks for your school, programme or community
a professional development offering for local artists
a lab-style session supporting improvisation, composition, and artistic research
a facilitation-focused workshop for educators and teaching artists
What the workshop includes
Depending on format and duration, workshops typically include:
An introduction to the Toolboks system (card categories + symbols).
Practical studio explorations using Individual, Partner, and Group Tool cards.
Layering and refinement using Add On cards.
Reflection and dialogue using Consider cards (feedback, process, collaboration).
Pathways from improvisation into composition, set material, and score-making.
Space for questions, exchange, and contextual adaptation.
Toolboks is designed to be used autonomously. The workshop supports participants to develop their own relationship to the tools — how to choose cards intentionally, how to combine elements, and how to integrate the resource into an ongoing practice.
Tailored for different practices and contexts
Workshops can be adapted and shaped to meet different groups, needs, and contexts, including:
Dance Artists and Choreographers
A studio-based workshop focused on movement research, improvisational explorations, and compositional development — supporting independent practice, collective processes, rehearsal and choreographic development, devising and collaboration.
Educators, Teachers and Facilitators
A facilitation-focused format exploring how Toolboks can support session design, teaching structures, group work, reflection tools, and creating inclusive, responsive learning environments.
